DFhacks estimate shows how much there is and it is relatively exact. It does not show adamantine with "reveal"-"prospect", you need to use "reveal hell"-"prospect. Adamantine tubes are blacked out with using just "reveal", to prevent a problem where "reveal" unleashed the HFS in previous versions.
You do not need to reveal prior to prospecting - as already stated several times, you just need to run "prospect all" so that it counts unrevealed tiles.

I know that. Someone was talking about not seeing adamantine with prospect, so I thought it might have to do with reveal blacking out stuff.
