Actually, if you add the Better than Wolves Mod to Minecraft, it ends up being more like current DF since you gain windmills, waterwheels, screw pumps etc.

I suppose if someone ever completes one of the whole increased accuracy geology mods, the effect would be even more pronounced.

But yeah, at its core, the similarity comes from the effect of allowing your creativity to run riot, and then making stories around that.

You can compare stuff without suggesting that one is better than the other.

I know that, it's just that my brother will say one is better just by comparing some random part of each...  (and it's sometimes things that are kind of stupid, like how many tvtropes pages they appear on)

Managing your dwarves is so complex that multiple pages on the wiki are needed to sort it out for beginners.
I take extreme offense to this. I spent hours reading page after page on the wiki, and that was just to learn how to move a minecart. I still haven't learned how to load the minecarts with stuff.

Managing your dwarves is so complex that an entire application is needed to sort it out, with several pages on the wiki on how to sort the application out.

They both have two fluids, water and magma, and when they mix, you get obsidian.
I'm wondering how common this is. I know it's not correct in real life, so where did this concept of magma+water = obsidian come from?
Because it's pretty simplistic concept modelling, everyone knows obsidian are volcano glass, even if magma + water tend to come out with pumice ( which aren't too far off from shock-cooled obsidian foam, to be fair ). That and obsidian does looks pretty nice! Obsidian does comes out from fast cooking of magma, just not usually with water :D

( Granted my memory might be wrong, but there're not much reference I could find on obsidian formulation compared to pumice )

When I played Minecraft, I was hoping the you could one day have a bunch of followers who did stuff for you, like building a fort in a mountain, cutting down trees, hunting game, etc.

DF is kinda my dream MC game, although much more than that, obviously xD.

What are you on about? All you need is a bolt, plow and hook to carve out your livings before wild pigeons get hungry and try to eat your flesh.

Water + MAgma= Cooling magma
Cooling magma = Solidified magma
Most commonly known sort of solid magma= Obsidian.

I mean, everyone knows obsidian, but not everyone knows basalt.

I figured out DF without reading any wiki pages that would have been helpful. Granted, my first fortress didn't farm or change z-levels... or stay played long...but I figured out the basics easily.
((Maybe it would have helped if I hadn't clumsily modded the game first?))

Yeah. Figuring out DF is like randomly ordering all the levers in a room to be pulled; eventually you know what kills your Dwarves and what doesn't.

The managing is the easy part, it's the UI that's the hard part.
I figured out minecarts quickly because it's just like transport tycoon.
