I found this video you fellow DFers might want to watch. It shows example footage of a world-generator/world-editor.  It's not a game, but more of an engine for games.  Anyone who plays minecraft will probably salivate over this.

The dude who made it is named Miguel Cepero; and Wikipedia tells me he formerly worked on the (failed) MMO called StarPeace.  I never played the game, but reading about it sort of makes me wish I had.  His blog has some pretty good articles on procedural generation.

Here's another article where he mentions Dwarf Fort. And he calls people who play ASCII games "weirdos".  I would be offended, but he's probably right.  Ha.
