Savagery question
« on: November 13, 2012, 09:52:29 pm »

In worldgen, what exactly does savagery affect?  I wanted an embark with no risk of animal men (I HATE capturing them in cages), so I set it to zaro.  But I haven't got any predators or flyers now.

Not that I mind getting no birds, but all I've seen in this desert are snakes and camels.  And I've seen much more than that in deserts before.

Animals that have the [SAVAGE] token will only show up in savage areas. This includes most large predators and dangerous animals.
Animals that have the [BENIGN] token will only show up in benign areas. This includes your bunny rabbits and most harmless creatures.
Animals without either one will show up anywhere.

So to answer your question, most large predators and flyers won't show up in areas with low savagery.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Thanks.  At least my custom creatures have neither, so they MIGHT show up.

Is there a way to remove beastmen, so they never show up again?

All you have to do is remove animal men from the raws, nothing difficult.

There's more than 100 of them. It takes a damn long time.

I think you could potentially get around this by modifying the ANIMAL_PERSON creature variation to include [CV_REMOVE_TAG:BIOME]. Then they would still exist in the game, but they would never actually spawn anywhere. At least if I understand variations correctly you could do that.

I just ctrl-Fed through all the files for person and it took like 20 minutes tops.
