Demonic Fortress
« on: November 14, 2012, 01:45:01 pm »

So I started a new Fort, not much of a fort I was just trying to build a big tree house like castle for my adventurer, so I mined an area of the map to get metals and make some food for my workers while the woodcutters hacked tree to build the tree house.

I thought he'll need some adamantine weapons and armor so I started digging deeper, deeper, and deeper till I got to the caverns, I passed the caverns to the lava, and then there they were, the adamantine tubes, I found 2 of them, I was so happy so I started mining them to make some gear for my adventurer.
and then it hit me, why not dig even further to the aerie pit so I can find the demonic fortress and let my adventurer take the weapons himself, the problem is, there is no demonic fortress, I was told that they're usually found at 160z levels down, but my map was stuck at 159, I couldn't dig any further down so I just made a burrow there and assigned all of my dwarves to it to die and end the game.

Anyways, my question is, why is there no Demonic Fortress, and why am I stuck at 159z levels? oh and also, why is it that my adventurer can't retire in the tree house?
Help?

Tubes leads to the underworld, demonic fortress are usually found within caverns and entirely different thing. Both leads to bad ends all the same, though :D

I believe there're an utility that'll help you find one, since they're rather scattered out compared to bluemetal tubes.

If you want to find a demonic fortress, you need to make sure there is one on your map. Ever large map tile only has one of them. Just check for upright swords in your stocks, since those can't be placed normally.

If you just want to go to hell (which is usually found that far down), find an adamantine vein and dig into it.

Unless you used some mode swapping tricks to retire your fortress instead of letting it die, your fortress isn't technically a settlement after you finish your game, and your adventurer can't retire there.

You aren't guaranteed to have a demonic fortress. I've never had one in all my time playing, so it's not much of a surprise.

Once back in 31.18 for me.

They only seem to pop up when you don't want them...

IIRC the stock thing was fixed, but you can still find it through room menu ( shift-r ). I've not tried, and this' secondhanded, but I do recall Toady fixing up something relating to underground tribes' stuff showing up in stock list.

Also, it is impossible to enter a Demonic Fortress from Hell unless you've pulled the adamantine sword from above. So, if you dig a shaft down, your adventurer won't be able to get back up through the fort. He has to enter through the fort (or someone has to have entered through it before him).
