Question on traders and potential accessibility
« on: November 10, 2012, 04:13:16 pm »

Ok so the entrance to my fort is a frozen riverbed. Here's what it looks like.

======================== <- edge of map
^^^^^^^^^^      ^^^^^^
xxxxxxxxxxxxx      xxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxx      xxxxxxxxxxx <---steep cliffs, clear space is walkable frozen river
xxxxxxxxxxxxx       xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxx       xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxx       xxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxx       xxxxxxxxxxxxx

              this way to fort

That is the edge of the map (=) up top there. Will traders be able to get to my fort? Frankly I dont care, because this is such a defenseible position. But it would be nice to know, as there is only one tile (a line of ramps) between the cliffs and the edge of the map.

If you have a depot already built, you could check with shift-d. If the path's 3 or wider, they should show up if depot can access it otherwise.

Sounds like river is frozen year-around, am I guessing right?

It is indeed. I'm considering build a magma channel underneath, filled and drained by pumps, to melt and freeze invaders.

That'd be unfair to goblinkind, however. They have rights too.
