Topic: Should I go Vanilla or Masterwork first? (Read 1767 times)

Hi! I'm a new person beginning to learn the ins and outs of Dwarf Fortress. I just downloaded the Masterwork mod, and I was wondering if I should just learn plain ol Dwarf Fortress first, or plunge head deep into the Masterwork mod first?

I'd start off playing vanilla until you know the basics, then move on to whatever mods you fancy. But hey, diving in headfirst is dwarfy.

You're going to have a lot of fun with the game, no matter what mod you play, or the original. The game's going to probably be confusing no matter which version or form of it you start with. Even within any version you pick, your exact starting location and supplies you bring or dont bring are going to tremendously change your experiences.

Vanilla. Masterwork is a gigantic mod. You could go with Accelerated DF.

I am the authoer of Masterwork, and I say: Play the Modest Mod. It is vanilla Dwarf Fortress, but balances it better and fixes a lot of bugs. Once you are comfortable with the game, try bigger mods.
