MOD recommendation

I want to play a more interesting game: more death insanity and   various  pretty red variants of paints on my fort: elves entirely optional.
I want to try to keep the Vinnila DF though

I already tried masterwork and forlorn hope: i need a texture pack so i could actually see what is happening instead of acii

If you can help i would dearly like it.

Well, I would point you towards my mod, especially since you mention that you want optional features, but if you know it already... and both LFR and Masterwork do support texture packs. Try old genesis, it is another big fantasy mod with texture packs, the new one is still only ascii as far as I know though.

well i already tried yours it was fun; especially when the ferric elves fall into my pressure water traps but... none the less fun. so old genesis? what is it like?

Genesis is the mod that started me on modding, and when I need inspiration I gladly look at deons work for it. It is a lot smaller, but a lot more refined then MasterworkDF. More attention to detail, to lore, to continuity.

Just try it out, it is easy enough to find here.

Genesis got me started, too, and it is Genesis upon which I built my Homestuck mod (using it to get these "caste" things, specifically)

Thank you for reclame Meph, and by the way the new Genesis should have texture pack today, I will try to finish it.

Why didn't you stop on Masterwork? Do you know that you can toggle elements of it on and off and fine tune it for your liking? Also Masterwork included like 80% of Genesis creatures, so unless you want my specific lore, I would recommend it instead.

In the later stages of Genesis I try to make it into a dark fantasy, which is especially noticeable if you settle next to evil biomes (which are considered to be "tainted" areas of the world where the creation was corrupted by the Void when... Don't get me started, it will take forever :D).

i said i am already playing it: i guess i want sine less then conversion mods  ;) i already tried masterwork and had about 16 forts played: before i found modding just had a texture pack but that was about it. now i am playing around with small mods and i want to know how you make textures for items so i could just make them my own.
