Storing Items in Dwarf Mode for Retrieval in Adventure Mode
« on: October 28, 2012, 07:51:36 pm »

I recently made a fort with the express purpose of decking out an adventurer with some adamantine gear. I embarked with seven miners, dug straight down, and harvested as much adamantine as I deemed was safe from the two spires I found. After processing it and making a full suit of armor, all of the slashing/piercing weapons (and a crossbow, just for fun), and a huge pile of bolts, I dug out a large vault. Inside, I put all the adamantine goods and an artifact table I got, then sealed it with a drawbridge, with the lever easily reachable by an adventurer. When I finally came back, I found the vault completely empty. After several dozens of minutes of searching, I found only three adamantine bolts and one gauntlet. Is there reliable way to store things so that they can easily be retrieved by an adventurer without too much scattering?

DFHack has the "lair" command, that marks the map area as a lair, thus preventing item scattering.

The last time I made a vault, I used a locked door connected to a lever nearby, instead of a drawbridge, and found everything right where I had left it.
