So, I have a quest, and would like advice if anybody happens to be knowledgeable in this area.  I've been slowly trying to increase my personal computing security and have been making good progress in general. 

My current goal, is to have a locally encrypted mountable filesystem that I can use for permanent storage. 

Ideally it would:
1)  Be external to my computer.  Something like a cloud system or something I can somehow integrate with my unix webserver.  (which I don't have root access, but have a fair bit of freedom on).
2)  Mountable as a filesystem from my windows machine.
3)  Support a high level of encryption.
4)  Be semi-portable in case I ever want to move it somewhere else.
5)  Encryption should happen client side, as I don't want to trust a third party.

I'm going to be looking around for an ideal solution, but if anybody happens to know easy ways to set this up I'd love to hear it.

At work we just now built this using owncloud. Don't know the rationale for the product choice, though.
