Here's another not-so-obvious trick. You know how dwarves typically ignore blood and contaminants? Well not anymore

Building something on a floor (constructed or otherwise) will remove any contaminants. I typically have a decent supply of beds, and the key bindings favor their mass deployment.

My previous workaround involved deconstructing the floor  Not very convenient for floors that use a pattern of any kind.


My dwarves clean floors with beds... this requires some time to sink in...

I don't hesitate to use dfhack's "clean map" for a buggy labor.
