I've started an almost fully featured Masterwork Mod fortress, with 90% of invaders on (the other 10% was making world-gen crash, for whatever reason). For those that do not know these mod, it can add (as almost everything is optional) around 30 sieging races, lots of monsters, metals and the like.
My current situation, after 3 in-game years, is kind of desperate. Around 3-5 sieges per season, I'm walled in from the outside, 100% military defense is really NOT an option right now (I'm currently down to only 6 excellent soldiers, making gear for another 24), and in the first cavern there is a certain situation that is making me write this point. The most powerful and dangerous Forgotten Beast I've encountered so far.
Even though there is no current access to the first cavern, the last whole year I've been sieged by ant men. Lots of ant men. Lots and lots of ant men. And it seems they DO NOT leave the map. So every new siege brings about 20-40 ant men. As almost half of the cavern is still unexplored, I had to make calculations for every "vile force of darkness" that appeared on an unexplored section of the map. I calculated that Above 150 ants were cluttering my caverns.
Then a forgotten beast appeared. It was a giant
kinglet that spammed/threw fire at everything it encountered. It killed around 4-5 ants before it was ZERGED by lots of them and killed. I started to lose hope of retrieving the caverns without blood, so I was starting to think of some slaughter or drowning chamber that would connect the caverns with my fortress and attempt to confront the ant men that way.
That's when it happened. Half a season after the first forgotten beast, another forgotten beast appeared. It was the stuff of nightmares. Of nightmares I tell ya!
It was a humanoid made of slademantite (a alloy made from adamantite and slade, which I understand is similar, maybe a little worse, than adamantite itself. I haven't looked at it in the raws), has wings and two dust attack, one freezing and one boiling. Basically, death itself.
It punched right through the ants army, killing around 40 which came in squads of 10-20. And all WITHOUT A SCRATCH. The ant men had cooper and iron from what I've seen (not the best, I know. but I'm doubting 30 dwarfs in steel will do much more of a difference)
That's what happened within my sight, because then it wandered off to the unexplored part of the cavern, with some ocasionally bursts of dust appearing near the corners of the visible tiles. (probably more ants dieng).
While my initial reaction of it was of terror and crying like a girl, now it is awe and respect.
(alongside of terror and crying like a girl)Now almost another half a season has passed, I haven't seen any ant invaders in the units panel (just a dozen of white tigermen lashers and now 20+ steel wielding naga mounting unicorns)
I really doubt that it is dead. But is it still lurking around? Or could it have left?
See, that drowning chamber I was thinking on, is now in my head turning to a labyrinth, with that beautiful killer beast trapped inside. I would make an airlocked connection from the labyrinth to my fortress and another from the labyrinth to the caverns, the outside and also my fortress again.
The hundreds of siegers would have to pass next to the labyrinth to get to the fortress, at which point I would lock them in in that passage and open the passage to the labyrinth, eventually leading to the carnage you can all imagine.
The problem here, is as I said, I don't know if the FB is still lurking around. And I don't have too much time to mess around building a labyrinth, airlocks and stuff if it may not work. With so many sieges coming my way I'm out of wood, with no access to the trees outside (because of the sieges), and the caverns being too dangerous right now, which leads to my bed manufacture reduced to zero (I've got migrants and grown up babies that need those beds). I could replace them with stone and cloth beds (allowed by the mod) but it would take more time to setup. Also I've lost some very social dwarves in the transition from the little time of no being sieged and being sieged again. People is slowly getting unhappy.
