My elaborate ocean creature catching basin didnt quite work out the way I intended. Actually I never even caught one fish, the dam spotted ratfish just "didn't feel like it" I guess.
So I drained the ocean off the edge of the map through a fortification, all the way down to the lowest level.
I caught a salmon! SUCCESS 

Seriously though, I read some posts about draining oceans into aquifers, but I was wondering, if you drain an ocean large/long enough, if you abandon and then go to embark select, could you possible drain the entire body of water!? Like, on the world map?!

Each embark tile is separate from the entire world, with a few minor exceptions. In other words, you can't drain the entire worlds supply of water into an aquifer unless you went through every single tile and did it manually, and even then it would have absolutely no effect on the world outside your embark.
