Hm, I didn't exactly hate it, but the plot in Neverwinter Nights 1 was about one chapter too long for what it encompassed. 3 chapters one after the other collecting mcguffins was a bit lame.

Oof, the Neverwinter Nights original campaign. There's parts of it that were good - but, soooo many parts. O_o

Also, the story campaigns for the Heroes of Might and Magic games are some pretty awful '80s-cartoon-type stuff, at least, if they're all like III and V.

Final Fantasy XIII definitely falls into this category for me.  Gameplay was pretty fun, not what I was used to from 7 through 12, but fun.  The story though was just... bad.  So very, very bad.  To this day I haven't finished it because I simply don't give a damn what happens to any of the characters.

Toss in Dynasty Warriors as well.  The gameplay's extremely fun, and I like the *basis* of the story, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, but the amount of "artistic license" taken just annoys me.  Turning historical figures into women so you can put in boob-jiggle physics for the middle schoolers to drool over and giving Cao Cao bamboo tanks makes me facepalm if I'm not chanting the MST3K mantra over and over.

Finally, the Robotech games were awesome, but the storytelling was unbelievably bad.  A lot of the lines of dialogue were direct rips from the TV series.  I enjoyed the TV show for what it was, an english-dubbed mashup of three separate Japanese shows turned into one big awesome missile-filled mess, but I figured EA would try to raise the bar a little.

P.S.  +1 for HOMM, and by extension, Disciples.  Cheesiest of the cheesy.

I like to think that on the other side of the world a human is walking on the beach, notices the water level suddenly drop twenty feet, and whispers "fucking dwarves."

"The cows seem to lose bowel control when launched... I consider this a feature."

Heh heh, I liked the storyline of 5. Sure it was cliche but the villians were so mustache-twirlingly evil it appealed to me. :P Ahh, Markal.

Ooh, i remember, i was so hoping that Neverwinter would be the new, better Baldur's gate. But somehow the transition to 3d didn't feel great. And yea, the story was really anemic. I was still way into it because i hyped it so much in my mind before playing it (i even bough it in english -which i barely understood back then- to have it earlier). I remember that i wanted to romance lady Aribeth, was kinda glad that her dude died in the first chapter, then i used all her conversations topics optimally up until she was my very good friend. And then she betrays everyone, it was probably the high point of the game for me, emotionally (although in a depressing way). But nothing after that was really interesting.

The good thing was that since i played it with an english dictionary to read the dialog, it really improved my english grades.

About good games with bad stories, i guess the most recent was Fallout New Vegas, for me. Not that it was really that bad of a story, the narration was good but the themes used (casinos, vegas, the guys that look like they're from a roman legion but with sports equipment, and the sorta "wild west" setting) are not really things i like. And i guess it was still way better than Fallout 3, which i never managed to play past the first town...

The problem with Neverwinter I guess is that its story continues LONG after you stopped caring.

Other M I hated both in gameplay (CAN'T MOVE AND SHOOT ROCKETS AT SAME TIME WTF) and story, but story in particular. Samus is transformed from a badass female bounty hunter among countless of generic heroines unable to wear a shirt, to generic griefy moping heroine who chooses the WORST FUCKING TIMES for breakdowns.
THUMBS DOWN!

Honestly Other M would have INSTANTLY been saved if one thing happened...

If Other M was a prequil set before the first game.
