Friendly Goblins?
« on: October 19, 2012, 05:27:04 pm »

Im currently in the sewers of a town a few levels below the surface in an area called Dikedeep. Well, i was wondering around trying to find my quest target, and i come across a few goblins that are friendly. I greet them and am on my way. Well a few doors later i found a chieftess with a bunch of goblins around her, also friendly. I even talked to her about the surroundings. Anyone know whats going on?

Beats me.  Occasionally you get some bugs.  Ask them to join you and dont ATK unless your mark is there.  Unless playing as gob of same civ makes you a friend I am not sure.  Never played gob.  Be happy they don't stake your arse on a pole.

It's a bit unusual, but unless I'm mistaken, this does happen occasionally.
It probably started off as a Human civilization taking over a Goblin civilization. Then, the remaining gobbos were integrated into the Human society. These guys are just Human people who happen to be Goblins.
Don't quote me on that, though.

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

Not if they're hanging out in the sewers and have a chieftess. My guess is that they were outcasts that moved in the sewers, but your adventurer isn't an enemy of them because he didn't kill any of their allies.

This has happened to me before: in a vanilla game I found a heap of elves, friendly, just standing around in the wilderness. I recruited some into my party and then they suddenly attacked me.

I've had friendly goblins before with a veteran adventurer; As far as I know, I had killed a few megabeasts that had done their civilizations a disservice and became enemies, which caused the goblins to not attack me on sight.

The goblins still ambushed me, but all that happened was just some awkward staring and shuffling of feet before we parted ways.

I actually had a brief alliance with a Goblin Prisoner. I just walked into a house and there he was. So he became my first companion

For kicks and giggles, I called him out on being a night creature. Turned out he was a vampire, and I soon found myself in the very awkward position of defending myself from the creature I just befriended. Fortunately, I got a lucky knife throw, killing him instantly.

The reason they attacked you could be because you did something which is banned in elven society. Butchered an animal, wore an item out of bone (trophies), set fire to a tree/plant, killing an elf (maybe an evil one) etc. If this wasnt enough, cannibalism is perfectly alright and regularly done on defeated opponents. I.e. elves are like some strange native shamanistic tribe.

Ethics has never been included to adventure mode ever everything you heard about elves doing stuff like that only happens in worldgen and only in worldgen, maybe you can get a trade issue but that's rare as adamantine in adventure mode. The main reason they could have attacked you was conflicting enemy hero status that caused them to trigger, or you meet their leader unknowingly who then made you an enemy of the civ.
