What to do with my Twilight Creature
« on: October 15, 2012, 12:41:50 pm »

I've accidentally embarked on the lair of a twilight creature.  I have him trapped in his lair. Now, I need to find a use for him.

He's made of slate, so I figure he'll make a good goblin masher, and I've considered trapping him in a glass box and making him into a freak show of sorts.

Any ideas?

I have heard (but this might be a bug from an older version) that creatures in dens at your site are permanently trap-immune. So you'll have to get a little creative if you want to put him in a cage. (You'd have to stun him on a cage trap)

Arena. If the goblins survive, they're let free. If they don't, then they ded. very ded.

But man, slate? I didn't know twilight creatures could be made of stone.

Turn him into the operating mechanism of an elf disposal machine.

I'm thinking the arena is a good idea.  I have some plans outlined. What I plan to do is build an underground coliseum(conveniently, I have quite an abundance of marble), and drop his whole lair into it.  Hopefully, he'll survive the fall.  It's about 3-5 z-levels.  If not, I'll restore an older save and try something different.  When prisoners are dumped into the arena, I may burrow my nobles and important Dwarves in the seating area, and we'll have an old-style execution.

He's made of slate
Wait, what? Last I checked, only titans, forgotten beasts, and HFS could be made of inorganic materials - are you sure he doesn't just have slate-colored skin?

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

You could drop him one or two levels at a time.

Could the lair be connected to the arena, and just lure the beast down when it's time?

Also, how about connecting to the trade depot?
"oh, last year's caravan didn't make it home?  well, a terrible creature lives around here..."

Aw, shucks, it looks like he's merely slate colored...  Oh well.  Will still proceed with the plan, drop and all.  I don't like to sacrifice Dwarves, so I don't want to connect the arena and lair and lure him in.  Not to mention dropping him is cooler.  Imagine the surprise on his face as he drops into his new home.  As for pics\save, I'll get one or the other for y'all.

EDIT:  Here is his description. "A humanoid with lidless eyes. It has two long, strait tails and it howls into high winds. It's slate gray skin is warty. Now you will know why you fear the night.

He is average in size."

Here is his picture:

Here is a picture of the prospective arena:

That's the upper lair of the arena, where spectators will be seated.  Bellow is a designation of a smaller circle/oval, where the beast will reside.  Dropping him to that layer would be 10 z-levels, so perhaps it will have to be done a few at a time.

Be sure the floor you're dropping him onto is well supported, otherwise it will collapse under the weight of his lair floor.

Terrain in DF only needs one tile of support. This can even be one kitten tallow soap floor tile, holding up an entire mountain, from the edge of the pit it's suspended over. :P
