Terrifying glaciers have at least five kind of awesome bears and fantasy stuff too! I highly recommend them.

If it's your first fort, pandas, hippos, and elephants will probably murder you.  Even experienced players have fell before the terrifying power of elephants.  They never forget... and they NEVER forgive.

I like to think that on the other side of the world a human is walking on the beach, notices the water level suddenly drop twenty feet, and whispers "fucking dwarves."

Awesome? I suppose every animal is awesome, SINCE EVERYTHING can kill a dwarf, EVERYTHING. (And things that can't kill while alive will likely find away to kill your fort postmortem.)

You must be new.

Welcome, and your sanity shall surely wane, but in a good way.

May Armok have mercy on you.

Also, try to use proper grammar and avoid text language.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Giant cats (loins, tigers, leopards) are a good choice for war animal.  Those show up mostly in tropical forests, which also tend to have a wide variety of neat creatures.

Swamps and marshes have crocodiles and alligators which are the next best thing.

Frozen areas have polar bears, which are the best kind of bear, yetis and other fun things.

Mind you, most of these creatures aren't war trainable in vanilla DF, you'll have to edit some raws to make war rhinos and the like.
