Legendary?
« on: October 15, 2012, 08:47:31 pm »

It's easy to get your dining room to Legendary. A good engraver, some decent tables and chairs, a random useless tower-cap floodgate, and there you go.

But what if you add a few diamond-encrusted platinum statues and that adamantium grate some random dorf made? Now it's about ten times as legendary as it used to be.

Does this legendary-plus dining room make your dwarves happier than just plain old legendary dining rooms would?

Most likely, happy stuff makes dwarves happy so extra happy stuff should make dwarves extra happy. They can only reach a certain level of being happy so if your legendary dining room is doing that and you add extra stuff it's a rather large waste of resources.

It doesn't seem like adding more value to a room once it reaches "legendary" status gives any direct benefits to the room itself.  A dwarf who dined in a legendary dining room worth 30k dorfbucks will get the same benefit as one valued 100k dorfbucks.

The benefit of putting more stuff in, however, is that there's a bigger chance that the dwarves will "admire" something.  The higher the value of the admired object, the bigger the boost, and the more high-value items you have in an area, the better chance they'll be admired.  Couple this with the fact that the dining room is one place you can be almost guranteed every dwarf will be cycling through frequently and you've got a recipe for success.

I like to think that on the other side of the world a human is walking on the beach, notices the water level suddenly drop twenty feet, and whispers "fucking dwarves."

"The cows seem to lose bowel control when launched... I consider this a feature."
