slave
« on: March 03, 2013, 08:03:38 pm »

found a goblin slave in a human town, and he doesn't want to join me?  i thought he'd want me to free him.  very strange.  he walks about as if a citizen.

Maybe you don't have enough reputation? I think slaves have reputation thresholds just like civilians you ask to join.

From what I know slaves and prisoners are different slaves are forced to work for the civilization while prisoners are just waiting to  be freed bit a high rep allows you to recruit them while prisoners will just hop on your meatshield band of adventurers

but you'd think a slave would be more eager to escape than a prisoner, no?  either way, he was killed by the group of bandits that i lured into the town to escape them.

Well if you owned a slave that worked for free why bother removing them a prisoner is just a captured soldier or civilian who hates the civ

Personally, I think the game needs a way to capture bandits, and enslave them, or imprison them. something BESIDES killing them.
Think of the times you could have! A slave market could be opened!

Toady actually intends to allow us to capture them and turn them in to the proper authorities later in development. Selling them into slavery might actually occur, too, with goblins.

Completly agree, that's one of my favorite things to do, actually.  I like bringing people into jail, for whatever reason.  After non-lethal combat is added, i'm sure turning them in will follow, as Eric said.

Now, question, do the children of slaves become full citizens?

The reason why I ask, the main dwarf civilization (The Lone Hammers) top 3 positions (King, Queen, General) are all Goblins,  checking through legends they were always members of the Lone Hammers, however they've had a history of attacking (often right after a peace treaty) a neighboring Goblin civ.

I don't know about the status of slaves' children, but it's highly likely those goblins were born to parents whose homes were conquered by the dwarves and thus became members of their conquerors' civilization.

Dont quote me on this but I do think if a child is born in that civ it is considered a memeber I remember hearing that.
