-turn into a ?maybe? powerful monster once a month (awesomeness depends on type)

Disadvantages:
-drop everything once a month
-can't become a vampire

For werebeasts, there is no stunting of attribute growth in either natural or beast form (aside from the real attribute cap, where you just can't inflate an attribute any more.) Necromancers, though, cease to gain or lose physical attributes. So, if you want to become a necromancer, wait until you've maxed out all of your attributes.

NAV has the advantages/disadvantages down, except that to the cons you can add "There is a pretty good chance everyone you knew and loved will find out and HATE YOU FOREVER."

But there's a pretty small chance you'll live to see the next full moon after becoming infected, anyway.

^ if you manage to do so, there's a fairly good chance that you'll survive a lot longer seeing as werebeasts heal all wounds. I've actually been trying to get a fortress infected with lycanthropy (+ one vampire locke in the lever control roll, and maybe an ex-adventurer necromancer if that's possible.)

I want to tell you they were bad men, cephalo.  I want to tell you that with a better overseer the Fortress never would've gotten so bad someone would get offed in a pointless fisticuffs.
But the sad truth charlie?
It was inevitable.
