Not enough fun
« on: October 03, 2012, 12:58:51 pm »

I have a rather lovely fort, which has the unfortunate problem of having gone a little tame.

I was getting sieged by goblins regularly, and fun times were had, but I think I've killed them off now. There are no important leaders on the c screen.

Other than this, I've only had two or three lame FBs, no vamps,  and no migrants for a few seasons now. I'm killing the elven caravan in a variety of colourful ways every season, and still they come in peace. I've sent my glorious army down to the deepest depths, and found.... precisely nothing.

Is it likely to pick back up? Is there any point to killing the human caravans as well? Or is it time to lock the kids in a room with the rapidly re-wilding eagles and see if I can kick off a tantrum spiral?

I hate it when forts end like this, much prefer a last valiant stand in the coffin room!

Just set everyone to find the circus. Then make them ALL into squads to rush the clowns.

Sadly I think there isn't one - I'm on a tiny map.

I think it's time to make a magma pumpstack higher then z-level 1... and turn it on.

Notify Toady about how it says "it can breath fire".

It should be "it can breathe fire".

So it does... I've seen dragons in fortress mode on three different occasions, and apparently, each time I was too "Oh, CARP" to notice that typo. :P

Any or all/most of:
Destroy your farms and slaughter your herds. Source all your food and drink off a single hunter and a single herbalist.
Melt down all the weapons and armor, then melt down all the anvils.
Install magma and water ducts in every room in the fort, linked to levers, for climate control. Bonus points if a single lever pull shuts off one source, drains the duct, and opens another source.
Enlist every adult into 10-man squads and set every month's schedule to four Train orders, minimum 2 each.
Export nothing but caught and trained wild animals.
All trade goods sold to each caravan must be made of the same material, and change the material each year.
When a dwarf reaches Legendary in any skill, retire him from all labor forever.
Export only Masterwork goods.
Use only wood bought (or stolen) from caravans.

Any (or all) of these should be rather trivial if you already have an established fort. But it's a start.

Children you rescue shouldn't behave like rabid beasts.  I guess your regular companions shouldn't act like rabid beasts either.
I think that's a little more impossible than I'm likely to have time for.

If you don't mind slightly modding the game, you could add [VERMIN_HATEABLE] to dwarves.
You might need to gen a new world, but it will increase the odds of tantrum spirals.
For greater effect, add it to goblins, elves, kobolds, and humans, too.

Urist McDwarf absolutely detests dwarves.
I'd tantrum, too.

Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.

Have you actually done that? That would be insane.

Actually, I have a fort right now using it, of the starting 7 dwarves, 5 hate kobolds.
