Why wont they build my walls?!
« on: September 25, 2012, 03:12:46 pm »

I am almost done building walls around my fort. There are 3 more walls that need to be completed, but they refuse to build them. They have the available stone, they arnt busy, they just keep suspending the construction. I even made burrows so dwarves wont walk through it. But no they wont build them :P.

The exact message it gives you when they suspend the wall's construction should give you a hint as to the problem.

"Interrupted by <creature>" - something scary is there which may require killing
"Item blocking site" - check the wall square for other items obstructing it, like vermin corpses etc, and remove the offending item by dumping it
"Creature occupying site" - the dwarf is attempting to build the wall on top of itself and failing. Remove the wall and re-designate it to (usually) fix. (Especially annoying when walling off aquifers)

There are some other possible issues, eg. if the construction site or building materials have become inaccessible for some reason, but generally the three above are the ones that usually cause building-suspension spam in any fort I've tried to build.

Thank you =D! Removing the designation and re ordering it fixed the problem.
