Favorite Building Material List
« on: September 19, 2012, 06:58:03 am »

I'm replacing all of the stone walls in a large fort with obsidian block walls, and selecting Obsidian Blocks from the 7 page list of possible building materials is taking three or four times longer than any of the actual in game actions required.

My suggestion is to allow the user to select 5 or 9 or something favorite building materials by hitting the numeral keys as they scroll through building materials.  Once selected that material will show up at the top of the list regardless if any are available.  By hitting the same number on another item you change the favorite, and by hitting it on the same material you clear the favorite.  This list should be shared between every sub menu of the b->C-> variety.

Easy as pie, and no more hunting for your 99+ Obsidian Blocks in a 7 page list of Dog Soap Block 01, Horse Soap Block 05, Rose Gold Bar 22 etc etc etc

It's alright, everyone makes mistakes sometimes.

What about if game just remembered what you selected last time and preselected that?

No need to mess around with favorites then and frees numerals from keybinds for other use.

Even that... I like to dig out the most of a fort and then redo all the walls and stairs and such out of bricks to make 'em color coordinated and nice, and I swear it takes 2 or 3 times as much time to select building materials than it does to actually get the built.

The worst part is that the algorithm selects one unit rather than all units in a stockpile when calculating distance, so even when your building sites are equidistant from the stockpile the ordering of the list can jump around.

This should be delightful and it's so painful :(

So, your most recently used material would be on top? If you can turn it off, I'm fine with that. It seems suseful.
