My dwarfs always leave stuff behind in the trade depot???
« on: September 19, 2012, 02:22:36 am »

For some reason every time I trade and then they start moving stuff back to base. There's always something left behind like in this case it's a couple pick axes, crossbows and a cage. I have an area set up for them to be stored, Even if I set up a new empty spot.

Oh ya speaking of pick axes does the quality of the pick matter and if so how do I get my dwarfs to switch to better ones?

Quality doesn't affect digging rate, iirc.

My only guess is that the target stockpiles are full.

I made a new stockpile just to be sure right next to it and they still won't move the items. hmm.

Well don't know what it was but after awhile of playing and having another caravan come they finally moved all the stuff.

I always seem to find my large gems get left behind, although there's ample stockpiles and bins for them. It handy to be honest, there's nowhere else I'd rather keep them than right where they need to be.

Large gems get left behind because stockpiles are currently buggy and will never stockpile furniture or finished goods made of gems.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Want to clarify that? I have a stockpile of tables, so that must be a badly written sentence.

Currently stock piles will not accept furniture made of gems or finished goods made of gems (i.e. when a gem cutter gets experienced enough, he sometimes makes a gem scepter or gem ring or ... instead of just a generic large gem - I don't think I've ever seen gem furniture resulting from that, though; that's usually from a mood instead).

I thought cutters made perfect gems and setters made other stuff.

That's not how it works - both gem cutters and gem setters, when entering a strange mood, appear to have a flat 50% chance of producing a perfect gem with a single decoration, and the rest of the time they gather multiple ingredients and produce a fairly random item (which can sometimes be furniture).
