Longer Chains
« on: September 11, 2012, 01:19:51 pm »

I think it could be nice if we had the ability to produce longer chains.
Since the only situation where we could need this is jails/ restraints, the easiest way to do this would be to use the weapontrap menu.
Placing a chain via build menu would open a dialogue where you can add chains the same way you would add weapons to a weapon trap.

I know this is nothing crucial, but could come in handy with jails, since you could build rather lavish holding cells ( A jailed dwarf would have more space to reach objects)
It could also be used to "pasture" non-tame grazers ( Do non-tame grazers stay in pastures ? I never tried ... )

I hope you like my suggestion and that I didn't waste too much of your time ^^

Non-tame grazera don't need to eat.
Longer chains have a lot of potential use in all sorts of things, from jails to mechanics, so it's probably planned.

Right now chains exist in an odd place, as they only are finite when coded to be. In some places, Chain reach forever, in others not so much. Maybe chains should use the size of their stack as their length, in blocks. Chain(25) would not be 25 chains, just one extremely large one. Also, I'd like to see chain mechanisms using counterweights to open and close occupied bridges.

Chains have many possible uses. I'd prefer to see bridges stay as they are until we can generate power more easily.

I think if animal care labor would enable feeding of caged\restrained grazers, that could help without changing chains in any meaningful way.

Things could get tricky late fort.
