Getting dwarves to relinquish held items
« on: September 09, 2012, 04:50:02 am »

Is there any way to force a dwarf to drop a held/worn item? Most commonly, I'd to force dwarves to drop their socks and mittens so I can smash them, but recently I had some problems I won't get into here with dwarves dragging dangerous (i.e. syndromy) items to the hospital when "injured." Long story. The point is, it's a potentially serious issue.

Go into the dwarves inventory screen through the "v" tab. Select the item in question by scrolling and hitting enter. You should be able to select unforbid, dump etc with the usual keys in that menu. Not sure it works very well for items that have claimed ownership though.

It definitely doesn't. Didn't work for hauled items with resting dwarves, either, probably because they don't notice it's forbidden until they try to use it for its intended job.
