Through the Madman's Lens : Timeway
« on: July 16, 2012, 10:12:01 pm »

At times i'm visited by a one Mr. Hooks, who shares stories with me that have ranged from profound to silly.  He's a bit of a recluse, and I fear that if I don't share his stories, they will pass from the world when I eventually do.  After some coaxing I convinced him to allow me to do this, with the singular request that he is left alone.

From time to time I will leave things here of his, please feel free to post to watch, to criticize or to have a discussion.  I hope you enjoy his tales.

Chapter 1:  In The Beginning...

in the beginning there was everything,
completeness never unknown.
later came the nothingness,
the empty, the oppressive black of night.
deep in the core it was,
hidden beneath it all:
a simple flaw, a scratch, a crack.
like a hammer stroke against the glass,
spliting - breaking - searching,
the shattering of the everything,
bolts slicing out, piercing the sameness.
snapping - bursting - exploding,
lines drawn, rays, angles,
the emptiness had to exist,
but could not be contained
the emptiness had to consume,
and could not be appeased,
the lack of absence, impossible.
that which is, becomes less and less
that which is not, more,
more squeezes less, stamps out the flame,
two impossible foes, locked in battle
each with an end, unable for each to escape,
boundlessly the darkness grows,
retaining all that is not.
infinitely the existence collapses,
maintaining only what is.

((Off-topic: For some reason the word "Wrighting" made me think of the Wright brothers, and so that this thread was about making primitive planes, by Mr. Hooks.
I think you're looking for the word "Writing".))

I thought it might be a distraction, but Mr. Hooks insisted on that wording.  I think he finds himself clever.

Chapter 2: Of Plights of Flights of Comets

No eyes to see, yet I feel you draw near
radiant heat, its origin unclear
the warmth which melts away my icy sphere
and at my core I feel you tug my heart

But as I thaw beneath your lively beams
I notice that I'm pocked with cracks and seams
As I'd drifted in my lonely dreams,
I'd forgoten how this ever got its start

I'd longed for you to capture me
to dance together endlessly
Or draw me in, then careless cast me free
to make my own way through the ghastly dark

But always was I pulled back towards you
thinking that I'd ventured somewhere new
and each time as I'd draw into your view
your gravity would cut and make its mark

I'd piece myself together as time passed
thinking that this time had been the last
an finally when I found myself amassed
a perfect orb, so pure, a work of art

But this time as I pass near to you again
my fagile bonds, they shake and they grow thin
I dive head long into your searing wind
silently scream as I'm torn apart

Chapter 3: The Funk of Life

The funk of life,
the excited particles on the surface of a bit of matter unable to realize its potential.
The gritty film on a sphere heated by a tiny ray of light.
The earth creaks and groans,
the stone is impure.
Dreaming silently of fire, of pure.
It tugs more and more searching,
yearning for the fire in its belly, the endless centre, the point of truth
where the pushing ends.
The process continues on.

We try to fight it,
to stand away,
to fly,
to drift away.
The clouds roil overhead,
the excited particles, the heat dissapating, liquids pulled down,
the particles are drawn together,
the process continues on.

We roar back at the thunder,
we rail against the sky,
it pushes down,
it breaks our backs,
it grinds us against the stone,
to dust and meal, the bread of death rises beneath our feet.
The process continues on.

Chapter 4: The Old Man from the Hill

The old man from the hill sat and pondered.
His body was bent and twisted like the dead oak tree above him,
his face was sagged and worn like the weary prairie around him,
but his thoughts crept along like the deep roots below him.

He labored this way for untold years.
The tree crumbled down, the grasses grew thistles,
but in his mind grew a flower, brilliant and shining,
until the time finally came when he couldn't hold it in any longer.

He ran down the hill, scrawny joints in a jumble.
He capered and rolled to the valley below.
The village lay down, alone, in the valley,
where it quietly slept until this certain day.

He ran up to the people, he showed them his secret,
running one to the next in a flurry of bones.
The whole village was shown, and they knew it together,
there was laughter and cheering, the old man was beloved.

He lived in the village, for a time, simply watching,
to see what flowers the seeds he'd planted would bear.
The villagers explored this new gift they'd been given,
they used it and stretched it as much as they could.

They hurled it like venom at each other in anger,
and blew it so gently to the ones that they loved.
In all his delight the old man grew weary,
and took to his bed, to sleep for untold years.

When he finally awoke to find what great things he'd inspired,
he took to the streets to see what had grown.
All around him were seeds, the same one he'd shared,
multiplied, but the same.

The villagers content, never grew their own flowers,
just copying the seed again, and again.
The light flickered and faded out of his eyes,
and his back slightly stooped as he left for the hills.

He had given them greatness and poured out his soul,
he had shown them all what they each could grow.
And yet, not a one among them had done so,
leaving him all alone at the top of a hill.

Chapter 5: The Sentinel's Flight

Hidden by hazes of heat, the men came back cross the sands
Laden with spoils so sweet, robbed from foreign lands
Wearily dragging their feet, blood never washed from their hands
Citizens filling the street, joyfully strike up the bands

The Sentinel towers above, a statue of stone purest black
The wide-spread wings of a dove, stretch out from the peak of its back
A guardian carved with such love, their enemies dare not attack
Watching the crowd roil and shove, through its eyes forms a crack

As onyx-stone showers the ground, from above shines the fiercest of light
The Sentinel makes not a sound, stretches its wings and takes flight
The fools clumsily stumble around, slowly regaining their sight
Far away the guardian has found, the proof of their military might

A city whose fires still burn, with families slain in their homes
A culture whose children will learn, to play not with toys but with bones
A nation whose people now yearn, to never again hear death's moans
This sight from the Sentinel spurns, a tear to be squeezed from its stone

Chapter 6: Timeway

the first day
in time the right way

tomorrow I fell
and broke my mind

the glassy pieces
bounced and chimed

i'll saw time slow
and bend out

stretch on, forever

but now, out of never,

as a long lost
tangent shot away

springing back
from the other way

it all comes back,
and it all make senxe.

it all has purpose,
it all has plase

from dirt is formed a work of art.
labors of worms pulled unapart.

a body's built, to join the herds
by vicious dogs, and dark black birds

torn into place and pecked just thus
a lovely system, industrious

no effort wasted, a perfect plan
the lion breathes life into this lamb

My body squeezed out all the slugs
threw them back towards gunning thugs

the blood leapt up, back into me
and we all left, alive and free
