If you had to choose between these two scenarios, which would you rather the future of humanity be?

Defenseless slave race, always inservice to others, but not having any enemies in particular.
Humans relentlessly conquer the galaxy, inspiring fear and hatred amongst all those which encounter us.

We humans possess one undeniable talent; we are stubborn as all fucking hell.
Especially the Dutch.

Now I'm imagining a universe ruled by the Dutch.

The problem I have with this choice is that it falls into the logical fallacy of narrowing down millions and millions of possibilities to just 2 choices. In reality, there is so many more situations that could occur.

Logical fallacy implies it was unintentional. I made the number of choices narrow intentionally.

No it doesn't. "Logical fallacy" does, however, imply being used as the basis for an argument. I don't think this is an argument so much as a thought experiment. So while it is a false dichotomy, it's not so much a fallacy.

Thought experiments can make up whatever arbitrary rules they want. That's the point; to force your mind into thinking about difficult scenarios.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

You say it like it's a stereotype, but I wonder where it comes from...

I'm one of the 9 who actually voted for the first option. Am I weird for not wanting to spread hate?

Edit: some explanation: the wording of the statements led me to believe there are multiple others, therefore option 1 is being enslaved to one race, and friends with all others, and option 2 is enslaving all other races, including peaceful ones, we encounter.
