Cropping a .mov, need help
« on: September 04, 2012, 11:09:41 pm »

I've been running a virtual tabletop game with some friends of mine for awhile now, and just recently figured out how easy it is to record the screen with Quicktime. I've got the thing saved but now I want to trim it down to exclude the area I was keeping my GM notes in and some other information my players don't need to see. I have no idea how to go about this and I'm not keen on spending money for it. It seems like it should be fairly easy to do, but I can't find an obvious means or utility.

I'm on a Mac running OS10.6.8 and would greatly appreciate assistance.

EDIT for clarity: I just want to remove a constant area of the screen from the recording, reduce the display area and discard what was there while keeping everything else constant.

I'd give Avidemux a try. I've not done cropping with it, but I've used it for a number of other video projects. And it's free, so what's the risk? :)

Here's a post that mentions cropping ( step 8 ), so it should be possible.
