all the coolest creatures are egg layers , so you can only have giant rats and other lame invader mounts to breed .

I had a great plan, involving a complex system of bridges, traps and nest boxes, that WOULD! have worked... Then I'm reminded by the fact that only tame animals claim nest boxes. And that war Cave Dragons would probably mess up the nest boxes in the first place.....

The alternative, that I'm currently quite successful at in my current fort is:

Cave Dragon breeding!

that's right, my current 20 year old fort, has in fact captured a breeding pair of Dragons! And with some ight raw editing, they have now produced offspring! Currently 2/3 Baby Dragons are domesticated, and have been assigned to the prisoner incineration facility!

Modifications to the creature_standard.txt include:

[GENERAL_CHILD_NAME:drakeling:drakelings]
[CHILD:5]
   [BODY_SIZE:0:0:6000]
   [BODY_SIZE:1:0:60000]
   [BODY_SIZE:2:0:600000]
   [BODY_SIZE:5:0:3000000]
   [BODY_SIZE:1000:0:25000000]

The body size stuff is to simulate dragons growing very big quite fast, then spending the rest of their lives maturing and steadily growing.

There have been no accidental deaths as of yet, but things got a bit hairy, when one of the newborn Wyrmlings discovered a kobold theif while the Dragon Pen was open......

I will have to disagree, at 250 years old they are giving me roughly a 120 meat 50 fat, with these alone, I am making cave dragon roasts worth 50,000 dwarf bucks.  Not to mention all the internal organs, bones, teeth, you get as well.  They are only worth selling whole if your too lazy to butcher them.  Only good war dragon is a war dragon with an apple in its mouth keeping your dwarves ecstatic for the next 30 years.

What's the way of getting them to the butcher shop?

These two quotes make me wonder where this is going...

I think the problem is that they retain their allegiance to the goblin civ.

What about getting some dragons down in the 3rd level caverns? simply build a wooden door with a shitload of cage traps around it in the middle of a cavern (take precautions as needed) and you'll get a couple of them quickly (along with a bonus of GCS, Cave Crocs and a bunch of other nasty things).

The problem is you'll need to mod the raws if you want them to reproduce, anyone knows what needs to be added fort his to work?

He would need to add all the egg-related tags to the female caste (if not there already), and put up a few nest boxes.  The egg sizes are fairly large, so they take awhile to hatch.
