Steam internet connection issues

My mate has been having problems with steam claiming it cant connect to the internet which is bullcrap

we have tried a few solutions and the only possible solution I can think of is that possibly his anti virus is blocking steams acess to the internet? or another problem thats the only problem I can think of but how would we unblock steams acess to the internet without putting his pc at risk?

Again another of my suspicions trouble is I am but a lowly teen and have no idea how I would go about fixing them =O

If you have windows, and an antivirus program, just go to control panel, search for firewall, turn firewall off. Very simple.

Windows firewall is much less secure than most antivirus programs, as far as I'm aware.

Well, if you look around in the control panel there should be an option to let certain programs trough the firewall for your networks.
Else, do some more google-fu.

how to let windows firewall let trough some programs

or something like that.

I find that jumping straight to the google option solves most problems that I can't solve in the first 5 minutes rather quickly.
