Hi everyone!

Today I began a story narrating the events befalling my most recent fortress, Eshonbomrek ("Goodwhip").

It's being posted at my blog at www.elleshaped.com

Here's a quote:

Quote
1 Granite, 251

We arrive today at what is destined to be the site of the greatest fortress of our time. As we unpack the sled and begin to dig ourselves a comfortable work camp from which to begin construction, I have decided to hold a dedication ceremony to officially name our new start "Eshonbomrek" (ed. note: "Goodwhip"). We chose this name to honor the pack animals who have brought our sled this far, and to the tools we will use to tame this new land.

I myself, Ezum Taronineth ("Ezum Yellscity"), am a miner by trade. Our foundation party consists of another miner, Tulon Dishmabalath ("Tulon Rampartbolts",) somewhat simple but a solid fellow to have at your back beneath the earth, and five reformed prisoners.

If that sort of thing interests you, check it out and feel free to leave any comments in this thread.

I intend to update this every couple of days, or whenever I get sufficient interesting happenings to warrant an update.

Enjoy!

The second entry is up. Little enough is happening thus far, but it's only been a few weeks in game-time.

Enjoy this annotated picture of the initial encampment, by way of a teaser:

The next batch of data which we were able to capture contained our first look at combat in this sideways dimension.

Here's a teaser, but read the whole thing at my blog.

We had our first Forgottne Beast show up.

A 'great skinless sloth. It has large mandibles and it quivers and twitches. Beware it's venomous bite.'

Here's an artist's rendering, produced by one of my very skilled friends from IRC:

After I get home from work today, there will be a full post on this important topic.

Overheard in the Undermountain:

"Urist! Get in here, I need your counsel!"

"Yes, my liege! What can I do for you?"

(The King holds in his hand a tiny lump of cotton candy, mined in Goodwhip and sent as an offering.)

"I thought that we would have heard from Goodwhip about this incredible metal. Their last update as so hopeful that I had begun preparations to travel thre myself."

"Travel toa new fortress alone? My liege, you cannot be serious!"

"I am indeed serious, Urist. Sadly, as we have lost contact, I fear the area may have become even more dangerous that we had previously thought. I have postponed my travel plans for when we reconnect the fortress."

"And what if we should not hear from them again?"

(The King ponders for a few minutes.)

"We shall give them a few more turnings of the Sun, and then dispatch a party of settlers with several soldiers in order to asses the situation, and if necessary, reclaim the fortress from whatever evil befell it."

"An excellent plan, my liege. I shall begin the preparations immediately."

<That's right! If none of the Adventurers from the Adventure Mode forums succeeds in their investigation by Saturday, Aug. 18th, the King will be forced to dispatch his reclamation team with no prior preparations! Stay tuned, because this might get ugly.>

"Urist! URIST!"

<sounds of crashing, roaring, and screaming in the distance>

"Urist, get in here this moment!"

<door opens and Urist enters, bleeding heavily from several long scalp wounds>

"Yes, my liege?"

<His Majesty hefts the chunk of cotton candy>

"I find myself unable to put this down these past few days. I have started to carry it in my dreams... soon I will..."

<His Majesty drifts off into a reverie until Urist jolts him awake with a discreet cough>

"Anyway, How are the preparations for Goodwhip's reclamation are coming along?"

"Excellently, milord... we had a small problem with a kobold in the menagerie but it is resolved now. The wagon will be repaired and ready to leave within the next day."

"Good, thank you. Get on with whatever you were doing then..."

<His Majesty trails off and sits down on his throne, hefting the chunk of ore and watching the torchlight reflect off of it. So beautiful...>
