Weirdly enough, it only seems to be non-lever linkage that takes forever. I speeded up dwarves for some testing (using DFHack) and while the unskilled mechanics would take a couple days when attaching the first mechanism, as soon as the mechanism-to-lever step occured they only needed to touch them together before zooming off.

Pressure plates work as levers do when it comes to speed.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

I have a 'Peon' class that uses Mining, all Stoneworking, Animal Training/Care, Feed/Recover Patients, All Farming except Planting, Brewing, and Cooking, Weaving, Strand Extraction, all Engineering, all Hauling, and All Other.

I do keep one Master Mechanic who makes all the Mechanism and a master Mason to make stone furniture. I made everyone Miners after the drop was no longer linked to skill.

At what point did the suggestion of child sacrifice become the more ethical option?
