Hi, I am new and happy to be here.  I started playing Dwarf Fortress about a year ago and have been loving it. 

I thought I should come bearing gifts so I made a couple sketches and just had them scanned today.  Hope you like them.  Do you think my interpretation of the Dwarf Fortress dwarves is suitable?  Part of what I love about DF is that it is so inspirational for the imagination in terms of art making and story writing.

Is there an existing standard to the DF dwarf appearance?  I am wondering if the dwarves would be more like a LOTR dwarf or a D&D dwarf?  Perhaps a Snow White dwarf?   What do you imagine when you play?

Hi Randos, and welcome to Bay 12! It seems you already know what this community loves... GIFTS. Gifts and being cool will get you a long way here. But mostly the gifts.

As far as interpretation, I would be hard-pressed to see any "common denominator Dwarf" here. The archetypal Dwarf is pretty much short, paunchy, and has a beard. Honestly, I think everybody has their own idea of what a Dwarf looks like, and I totally hope everyone holds on to that! Please don't feel like you need your personal artwork to "conform" with the opinion of one of us wild, random jackasses. Just keep on trucking, Randos. Looking forward to more of your work in the future, because your sketches look really great!

Thanks for your response, Kamin.  I am happy to hear that everyone keeps their own interpretation of their dwarves.  That makes it a lot more interesting.  So I will keep moving along with my imagination and let things flourish as they will.
