Vampires sensing blood

Awesome! Can't wait to play a vampire now!

What other types of smelling and sensing could we propose?

1. Animals with good smell (like dogs) can smell bigger entities? (For example playing as weredog)

2. Experienced adventures can have a feeling of incoming traps?

3. Somebody (not sure who, maybe item holder etc) could sense undead beings?

I figured I'd just post what Toady posted (since I was confused at first, and then realized I check the forums more than the homepage  ::) )

"You can get attacked by wandering critters and groups now, as with the old ambushes but now with actual information. Not everybody chasing you follows tracks -- I've added the ability of certain creatures to sense things like creatures with blood (or more generally, arbitrary creature classes), and this effect can be applied via syndromes/interactions as well. Here is a vampire adventurer: Town at dusk as vampire*. Another important ability is the sense of smell, which isn't easy to do properly -- I'm going to do some simple work with that, and then I can move on to a bit of work on evasion."

P.S.--This is freaking awesome.

WHAT HAS TOADY DONE................

The amount of malice in this thread is actually causing me some concern. I mean, chaining up mothers and forcing them to breed, just so we can drown their children to harvest their organs? Does this strike no one else as absolutely horrific?
You misspelled 'hilarious'

I'd like to see predators/enemies following their various senses and tracks towards stealthed adventurers and the like.

Maybe adding a sense of dread near powerful creatures, or perhaps curses could give new and randomized senses.

Would trolls and certain crustaceans appear cyan or blue?

Mummies could detect life-force (e.g. anything without NOT_LIVING).
Night trolls could detect potential spouses (e.g. anything with SPOUSE_CONVERSION_TARGET or whatever it is).
Dogs could detect goblins, beak dogs, and other creatures with the EVIL (or possibly also DEMON) tag(s).
Cats could detect victims.
Goblins could detect babies and children.
Pit vipers and the like could detect heat.
The ideas are endless.
