Memorable engravings
« on: August 13, 2012, 08:30:51 am »

I was admiring the artwork in my fortress this morning and found a couple that amused me:

Kebul Rinal, "The Sparkle of Ivy"

"Engraved on the wall is a masterfully designed image of Ral Daggeryelled the dwarf by Ral Uristtaron. Ral Daggeryelled is engraving. The artwork relates to the masterful engraving 'The Coincidence of Scribing,' created by the dwarf Ral Daggeryelled for the Swords of Day at Ironwinds in the late winter of 264."

Just to clarify, Ral Daggeryelled is Ral Uristtaron. This dwarf decided to honor one of his own masterpieces by engraving a picture of himself engraving it. Oddly, this is a floor engraving.

Lidod Dathnes, "The Waste of Pads"

"Engraved on the floor is an exceptionally designed image of 'Ingish the Vampire' Amusecaves the dwarf and mussels by Ral Uristtaron. 'Ingish the Vampire' Amusecaves is surrounded by the mussels. 'Ingish the Vampire' looks terrified."

I'd love to see some of your dwarves' memorable engravings or other artwork.

In genesis mod I got a engraving of one of my former adventures

Its was an engraving of me beating the human king to death with his own phallus. The king looked horrified.

The amount of malice in this thread is actually causing me some concern. I mean, chaining up mothers and forcing them to breed, just so we can drown their children to harvest their organs? Does this strike no one else as absolutely horrific?
You misspelled 'hilarious'

Unfortunately for you Mr. Whispers, what you posted is a statue. A statue is not an engraving. :P

This is legendary.

I had an engraving once of my mayor being slaughtered by an unarmed goblin. The weird part was that the engraver was the mayor's son. I got the impression that he was a rebellious youth.

It's not a real PARTY until the queen has a baby, picks it up, kills two goblins by punching THROUGH THE SKULL with her remaining hand, and then finishes off half a barrel of fungus wine while still nursing.

It may be a dumb question - but how do I actually see, what a statue depicts?

Just (v)iew the item's detailed description.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

If  the statue is already put up in a room you can only use the t command to see the description.

In building menus you can build a statue and while placing and choosing you can expand the list with x and (v)iew the description.

On stockpiles use the k command.

I don't do engravings. Though if you want engravings, I've got an engraved metal wall somewhere...

Well, the only things with descriptions I've made during my entire time playing the game are 3 statues of an Ent killing an elf and a 2 statues of a nondescript forgotten beast.
