It's obviously there to power the extra gadgets he plans to build in, like pest eradication guns, a robot to clean the damn thing, some flashy lights, a small hospital maybe.

Startup time and general OS speed. I have my OS and most used apps on a small SSD and even I am still amazed by how fast that thing still runs, despite being winXP and not having reinstalled the OS in 3 or 4 years (is does start slower now than it used to, because of that. But re-installing sucks.). It was my personal #1 Hallelujah moment, even more than all the graphical FPS stuff I could run on the highest settings.

Yup, SSD for the OS was something I was considering way back when I built my last computer but they were far too expensive back then. They make a world of difference in start up times and general loading, they do still have issues with longevity so a physical drive for the things you change a lot (installing, uninstalling etc.) is still preferable from what I have read.
 The 1200W power source is because I have had issues with computers I built before where the PSU was not powerful enough, so now I always overkill it just to be sure. And besides, the extra power could always be used for important things like a USB pet rock!

Makes no sense to have that much RAM, windows barely allocates 8 GB's.

why does the listed specs sound like the PC equivalent a massive 60's V8 more power than it can realy use.
 
(no joke your ram will be close to 50% of my hard drive now.)

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.
