Ok, so I embarked at a volcano, and there are a bunch of kobolds at the embarked area. They are friendly and don't move an inch, they just stand there. What, what, what?

Ive never found a kobold cave
is there a way to find them

Never found one, but the easiest way is propably using advanced world creation and allowing caves to be shown before embark.

Or find it in adventure mode first.

Wall them off, and watch when my annual checkups thieves arrive, and civil war erupts between filthy revolutionaries friendly kobolds and my hostile kobolds.

So, embarking on a kobold lair means you have caused a kobold loyalty cascade?  I knew this happened on reclaim for the invaders still on the map when you abandon, but I didn't know it applied to indigenous beasties on the site. Interesting.
