Adventure mode challenge: Vampirehunter.
« on: July 09, 2012, 11:43:04 am »

Seeing the pacifist challenge, i decided to come up with my own!

The main focus of this challenge is to hunt vampires, as you have probably guessed by the title.
Vampires are accursed humanoids, doomed by Armok to kill innocent people by drinking their blood, in order to live.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also, please do so in a way that you protect the local populace from harm.
Stealing the silver knives from peasants is encouraged, since it is for the greater good.

Post screens as proof of following the procedure to the letter.

Enjoy  8)

The only trouble I usually have is actually finding the vampires. I more often get sent off to kill werebeasts or night creatures.

If you're a human, werebeastism should be allowed if you have one female companion who you accidentally kill before you cheat to remove the curse, drop to your knees, and yell "NOOOOOOOOOOOO"

I tried this but I couldn't find a tall hat and none of my human adventurers can grow sideburns.

Vampires hang around in castles or dungeons, or in Podunk villages. They aren't hard to find.

One of my adventurers killed three or so Vamps..

Before I accidentally attacked a villager, and one of them stabbed me while I was still injured from the Vampire..

Oh well.

What about becoming a vampire yourself, a la Vampire Hunter D?

I know he was only a dhampir, but still...

Ooh, classy! I think that would be a permissible variation. Bonus points for only using a longsword/scimitar (even though I think he technically used an oversized falchion), no shield, throwing splints as stakes, wearing cloth clothing and about 10 cloaks (which I guess would be enough to cover his one ridiculous cape). You have to rest underground at least once every few days and generally prefer traveling at night. This would be fairly awesome. Say, does drinking blood from vampires satisfy bloodthirst? If it does, you could could satisfy D's general "don't eat people" policy.

Well, I hate to advertise my own work, but I have a mod here that could make your challenge a bit more fun. There's an update coming out very soon to fix a a few bugs with the newest version of DF, but the one you can DL right now still works perfectly fine. Check my sig if you're interested.

Oh hey, I was wondering when you'd pop up. But yeah, that mod does make vamps extremely !!fun!!, perhaps a la Dracula in the movie we're all referencing, only with superspeed.

Ah yes, the superspeed. Not all of them have it though, so with lesser vamps you can get lucky, as well as with minor. Perhaps I should make some reactions for making anti-vamp gear or something, I was thinking about it a while ago, and some potions a-la Witcher could work well, along with thrown weapons. ACTUALLY, I should give vamps a wood weakness so you can stake them. That would be cool.

i usually get about 3-6 vampires in a world , so this challenge is no fun.

and if vampire reveals his identity he gets killed by his family or a random child comes and steals your kill .
