Magma aquifer breach?
« on: July 26, 2012, 12:26:28 am »

I'm thinking about embarking on a volcano site. The site looks pretty good, but there's an aquifer. I'm not good with aquifers, but I was wondering if I could use the infinite source of magma here to somehow make an easy aquifer breach. Does anyone have ideas/experience with this?

Well, volcanos normally have a small ring of igneous rock around them - you should be able to breach the aquifer with that.

But yes, magma aquifer breaching is easy. Channel into the aquifer from above, dump magma in to encase, then dig out the obsidian (except for the border) to break through.

Thanks, I had a feeling that would work, just wanted to make sure before I wasted my time.

At first I thought you were asking how to breach an aquifer OF magma. I guess the closest thing in game is a few z-levels with nothing but magma. That would be fun.

Well that's easy.  Make a map sized magma piston!

At least in older versions, Aquifers seem to dry out around the volcanoes themselves, so it might not be necessary to go to much effort.
