Plump helmet men melt, Right?
« on: July 17, 2012, 06:00:51 pm »

I recently have mass pitted 4 plump helmet men and some other cave creatures into a waiting magma pool....
All the other things melted but the men are still in the pool generating smoke and spamming combat reports about being a in a magma pool  ???
They have all body parts burnt but still there....

Edit:One of them managed to get out but a hunter shot him down....

Magma is bugged i think, it solves every problem, no matter what, including your plump helmet men :o

On a serious note, they will probobly drown at some point. The reason for this (im guessing) is because plump helmet men have no internal organs, no blood, no nerves, etc, so they are just continualy burned until they drown, though they might not drown as they dont have lungs :o. Dont take my word for this though, im just guessing.

Knowing this forum though, this opens up a whole new book of possibilitys....

Wiki page on plump helmet men; http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Plump_helmet_man

Edit; on the wiki it says this; "Plump Helmet Men are extremely magma and fire resistant - Dwarven Science Experiments have shown that they can live for several seasons while submerged in 7/7 magma (while on fire)". Not
sure why this is..... !!SCEINCE!! anyone?

Edit 2; !!SCIENCE!! anyone?*

They have no blood. Last I checked, magma's damage was calculated as heavy bleeding/melting, and plump helmets do neither (or at least take a long while to melt).

And if you want people to take your "well-educated" claim seriously you should probably check your spelling on key words like "!!SCEINCE!!".

Only issue is that the pool is 4-5/7 due to a Dorfy hole in the side of the mountain letting magma out at that level.

Whatever, dick :p. My excuse is because iv been speaking French the whole year at school and now im taking Italian lessons, so my English is shabby. Plus, im better then most people of the interwebs. Try reading "Umg u r stupd y r u dun ths bro". Im so glad im on a forum of people that can spell.

Your being a bit unclear here, are these guys in a huge natural magma pit, or a chamber you made for them? Do you want to kill them?
If  want to kill them, and if these plump helmet men are in a chamber and are that much of a problem, you can easily build a bigger chamber beside the place the magma is at and drain the magma into it till its all 1/7, then it will evaporate away.

If there in a natural magma pit, just let them sink into the "spoilers".

I read it as dwarven. Anyway, Hes not asking how to kill them. Because everyone knows: "what you can't kill with magma, you can kill with magma+water"

Only issue is that there are only a few shallow pools on the map.
I will try draining and letting my military at em  :D

There was a thread on this, long ago. ‼Plump Helmet Man‼ can be used to decontaminate fortresses after particularly nasty FB attacks.

The thread I mentioned.

It appears that the constant battering from falling cave beasties has knocked off left arms from two of them.

Yeah, they tend to do that.

Both burn indefinitely AND fall apart. And their severed body parts also burn indefinitely as well I believe... I had a horrible experience with some modded variations and surface fires. My modded, tame mushroom dudes ran outside, got set on fire, and ran back inside to stand in the meeting hall, "chilling" with the dwarves. It was a massacre.

I actually managed to get one walled into a tiny area. It NEVER stopped burning. It killed a dwarf, too.

They're like walking lignite.

They must be weaponised.

Can they breed?
If so i will capture a pair that isn't inside the magma pool and make a army of burning plump helmet men  8)

There's a problem in general where a creature's tissue that is on fire will simply burn indefinitely without ever actually being destroyed. This affects very simple creatures more, which is why vampiric giant sponges can't burn to death either.

Ended a fort that was once. Granted I made them pets first, bred them. got one of them elected mayor.

Then put them all into a central pasture, released a bit of magma and deleted the pasture. So much fire as they headed for the dining rooms and booze stockpiles :p
