Axes and Anvils
« on: July 31, 2012, 03:50:24 pm »

So, pardon me if this was already posted, but I stumbled upon a Kickstarter project about an all-dwarven tabletop RPG and immediately thought of role-playing the fate of Boatmurdered with it. Looks VERY dorfy.

If anyone would like to support, here's the link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2063410154/axes-and-anvils

Well it's certainly a good concept. There's no real way to know if the game itself will turn out to be good or shit until we see excerpts, though. So far, we've seen bad signs. He seems to think a living setting is a good idea, for one, and I personally don't care for the choices made regarding dwarven women. On th other hand, there's apparently a rule stipulating that you toast when someone rolls a critical, which seems like a positive notion to me.

Neat concept, but I'm sticking to 3.5 D&D for all of my high-fantasy roleplaying needs and GURPS for all of my low-fantasy needs, since I have a dozen books or so for the former as well as an encyclopedic knowledge of the rules and own the books for the latter.

Still, neat idea.

I kinda miss player's option, splitting ability scores into two and tweaking them to focus more on one aspect of the score or the other.  But there's still a ton of stuff I need to try in D&D 3.5.

Well if what you're comparing to is 3.5 and GURPS, this can hardly fail to be a step up. But if you're dedicated to playing mediocre systems, the FAQ does mention that it's designed to be easy to port.
