Yoink: You're in luck, the Australian Capital Territory is, funnily enough, a territory, not a state.
...
Stupid grade Six teacher. ::)
Also, according to Wikipedia, NT doesn't count as a state, either. Weird.

You can generally be pretty sure that the ones that are explicitly called territories are territories.

Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory.

I don't think there's anyone alive who can remember all the protectorates and provinces and islands and things, though.

Somewhere, on some godforsaken island in the middle of the pacific, an Australian outpost stands strong against the barbarian hordes of crabmen.

Forgotten, but the only thing standing between the Aussies and a big pot of boiling vengeance. With Vegimite.

Let's see...within the United States I've been to 31 of the 50 (most of the East Coast and Midwest, plus California).
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Outside of the United States, I've been to:

Australia (every state/territory except WA, ACT and Tasmania; spent the largest share of time in Adelaide)
Czech Republic (Plzen, Praha and Brno)
China (Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing and a few day trips out into the countryside)

My wife's got me beat when it comes to foreign travel. She's been to the UK, France, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland (multiple times...she spent a semester at the University of Oulu), Russia, Czech Republic and Taiwan.
