Dwarf Fortress's Wikipedia article
« on: July 11, 2012, 08:40:12 pm »

Ding: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarf_Fortress. How'd I do? It's about ready for a GA nom. If anyone has a reference with the game's technical specs that's a little closer to Word of God then the wiki, that would be brilliant.

Edit: Needs a proofread first, though.

Great article. I think it would be good to mention a few stories that have sprung out of it, like boatmurdered. It would also be good to mention Getting Started with Dwarf Fortress too?

Be sure to mention the discovery and subsequent removal of mermaid sweatshops. Using merpeople to manufacture calcium-enriched products for the good for the fortress, only to have the DIA (Dwarven Immigration Agency) crack down on cheap labor and breaking up the underwater crime gangs that have ravaged the world for centuries.

The article looks nice and clean with all the relevant details. I did notice that Adventure Mode might need a bit more fleshing out in light of the massive blocks of text Fortress mode got. There was one misspelling, though I fixed it; you had 20$ where it should have been $20 when they were talking about money to fund the project. There may be more somewhere, but I'm a bit tired right now to do the rest.

there are a few more spelling and grammar mistakes and you might want to add that quietust has greatly contribute to debugging the game (the only player afaik to) and that there are various programs to help play the game, as well that it is possible to moddify (mod) the game to a large extend, much of the game can be edited simply in wordpador other text programs, and a wide selection of mods is available, from ones that add new weapons and materials, to ones that simply change the game balance to a 'majority view' (modest mod) up to complete conversions (my little pony fortress)

Boatmurdered has mention. I was/am planning to add a para on community mods and the book. The problem with adding things related to version history is that Wikipedia requires either word of god (Tarn or Zack) or reliable sources (ae. not the wiki or this forum) as references, and the dev logs on the site doesn't go back beyond 2010 (or at least as far as I can tell).

Edit: Ok, added mods, the open source question, and the book.
