World history.

I have a question.

I know while on the world map the game generates a world history, that much is easy to see. The thing I am wondering about is this.

Does that history continue to develop while you are in fortress mode? Or the rest of world history outside of your fort just stop?

I started in year 5, and am currently in year 54 or something, I am going to be disappointed if the rest of the world freezes.
