Embarking is strange, please help!
« on: July 12, 2012, 11:48:36 am »

When swapping between the same 2 tiles over and over, the materials found (e.g. flux, metals and clay) as well as the temperature and vegetation (e.g. heavily forested, thick) changes and generates "new" things. For example, swapping between 2 tiles that only have clay soil and shallow metal will eventually also give flux stone, deep metals too if swapped between tiles enough.

It's really strange. How can I know if those materials are actually there then?

Default embark size is 4x4 on a tile, but the tile itself is much much larger. Everytime you move off and onto the tile the game will choose a different spot to put the 4x4 embark on. You will only see what materials are within this embark size.
One tile can have multiple biomes in it, and you can put an embark to cover more than one biome, too. This is why you'll see different temperatures and vegetation.
