Quote from: Ripped straight from Steam
Wise Rulers know their kingdom will fall,
Brave Rulers do not despair.
Great Rulers know their riches can rule,
And spend every coin with great care.

In Kingdom, each coin spent can tip the balance between prosperity and decay. Attend to your domain, border to border, or venture into the wild to discover its wonders and its threats. Master the land, build your defenses, and when the darkness comes, stand with your people, crown on your head, until the very end.

Gameplay
Kingdom is a 2D sidescrolling strategy/resource management hybrid with a minimalist feel wrapped in a beautiful, modern pixel art aesthetic. Play the role of a king or queen atop their horse and enter a procedurally generated realm primed to sustain a kingdom, then toss gold to peasants and turn them into your loyal subjects in order to make your kingdom flourish. Protect your domain at night from the greedy creatures looking to steal your coins and crown, and explore the nearby, mysterious forests to discover curious and cryptic artifacts to aid your kingdom.

It came out earlier today. In all, I'd say it's a pretty good game thus far. Its base mechanics are incredibly simple, but it's a difficult game. It's intended to be played over several playthroughs, your first ones inevitably failing. Obviously, as you get better you'll be able to survive longer, and eventually be able to start going on the offensive.

The music's amazing, and there's all kinds of little effects that really lend themselves to the game. Little particles are kicked up by your horse when you run, the reflections in the water, the weather...

In all, I'd recommend it. I can see the game becoming boring once you know exactly how to run your kingdom and the like, but until then it should be a lot of fun.

I found out about it trough Marbozirs LP of it. It looks amazing (all of it, from the visuals, to the music and the little touches) and pretty damn fun too. My only gripe is that I've seen so much of the LP that I've spoiled a lot of what would've been cool to figure out on my own, but I really couldn't help myself since I started watching the LP a few days ago and just wanted more of the game XD

The game is very short and repetitive (2 to 3h ). There is almost  no replay vale, as every time you start you will play the same way, as the game is made so that there is only one playstyle. Randomization is very limited, and will not make anything interesting.

Great visuals, but for 10$ better wait for a sale as it is not worth it. The game feels like a mobile game more than anything

I played the flash game yesterday actually, got to level XV and got bored - but I really liked the concept, art and audio.
I didn't know the full game was going to be released already. It sucks if it's underwhelming (by being limited as the flash one), though, was hoping to see something great coming out of it.

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

The Randomization can lead to harder early game. Such as Recruitment Camps being DEEP in the woods making it that you need to leave the moment you feel that a certain side if clear of monsters else the new folk will not make it back by night. Buffs could spawn at the second stage of Spawngates (behind the first) making the challenge harder cause you can't buff the walls or archers...

I almost made it to night 40 on my first run, but my knights all kept failing to destroy even one portal on a peaceful night.

I learned I have to start trying to destroy it much earlier. However I think it triggers a real nasty invasion every time you fail...

BTW, I found the best strategy is to slowly (in the course of 5 days or so, always AFTER you get your chest) upgrade to the 4th tier Camp (this still gives you 4 coins compared to the 5 at the beginning and the single coin you get from the castle) without actually upgrading the inner walls or towers (you get stone walls and archer nests for free). Also, ASAP build the EXTERIOR towers, they are much better at killing invaders than the interior ones.

Also, whatever you do, don't destroy the peasant camps (they leave when you cut the last tree separating from you), and keep your base as small as possible. Just 3 walls if possible (the left one just so you can park the catapult there). And recruit TONS of archers.

EDIT: Crap, I think I overdid it a bit...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There's as many on my far left wall guarding my farms, and those portals are gone so they basically just hunt rabbits all day. These guys basically one-shot all the flying thingamabobs without any casualties, and even the big troll things are killed in seconds (if they manage to lob any stones they usually just hit the archer on the top of the tower, so I only lose 3-4 bows to every horde. If they reach the wall... well, they become sitting duck pincushions)

Picked this up during the Steam Summer sale. It's fun, if a bit simplistic. I do find the utter lack of any control or game help annoying, though. I don't like having to go to outside sources just to figure out basic stuff about a game.

Still, once I learned what stuff does I've found it is a nice relaxing way to spend some time.

Kingdom: New Lands just came out. Apparently I got it for free for having the original game? In any case it was in my steam library ready to install.

Started up a new game. Not sure how much the differences are yet, although I've noticed a few. We'll have to see how well my first game does.

Thanks for pointing that out! I had read that New Lands came out and wanted to try it, but didn't really want to pay for the game again. I had no idea I'd be getting the updated version for free. That's pretty generous of them.

Played over 15h in this few days after release. Like the game but there are problems. Got to the last tier of islands (have two more levels before I finish the game). The game now has levels, you move from a island to island. The problem is, every island will have something new, but most of the time, it will be very similar between them, and new stuff start to show in the late game, so levels can be somewhat similar and boring.

I'm really looking forward to trying the new version. I had a blast with the original. I had no idea they were giving the expansion for free to owners of the original, I only found out when I got an email from GoG to the effect that my order of $0 was complete and the game is now in my library. I have to say that's super generous of the developers.
