Refusing to move
« on: July 03, 2012, 01:18:24 am »

I have one of my military units who is refusing to move. He has the job of "pick up equipment", but instead is standing in the one spot, refusing to do anything. He is an archer unit, and the entire outside is littered with arrows, which I have unforbidden. I have tried putting him on break, station orders, and kill orders, but he stands still doing nothing. If I wait until he is hungry or thirsty, will this force him to abandon the task he's not doing, and eat, or will he starve sitting in the one spot? Is there something I can do to make him move?

Did you check the burrows? He may be trying to get equipment from a stockpile that's outside of his burrow.

Is your squad overbudget for its ammo? That could be another issue.

I've had this happen too. I think he wants to pick up bolts that are unavailable (in a moat/someone's quiver/bin being hauled). A station order tends to snap them out of it, but I haven't found the real reason why it happens.

Unassign him/her/it from the squad completely through the military tab. Make sure it has a civ labor enabled. Make game go (you might also want to v-Follow the dorf in question to make sure this works). Reassign it to a squad once you see it start to move again.
Seemed to work for me.

It might be an armor issue.  If you have assigned the uniform to be 'over existing clothing' this can cause problems.  Use (k) to see if he is standing over an item.

I'm getting this too, I've only noticed it happening with military dorfs and onyl with the "Pick up equipment" job.

yea, this happens to me all the time... i think it's the training and combat bolts assignment... it seem that if they have bolts for combat only and they are about to train they can't empty out the combat bolts to pick up the training bolts so they just stand there... i solved this problem by not assigning them any combat only bolts and just give them wooden bolts for training and combat... when a siege happens i change the bolts to metal and station them for combat... and change it back after the siege ends... this seems to work so far... but rather annoying work around...

Did you check that you have assigned bolts? Did you check that he is not injured too much to pick up equipment? Did you check that he has a quiver?

All 3... perfect health and whatnot... It was fixed by removing him from the squad, then reassigning him
