Lets make a DF poem
« on: October 14, 2007, 01:08:00 am »

Rules are simple, someone start us off with a verse. The next person picks up where they left off with another verse. They do not have to match exactly but have to be at least a bit related. No limit to how many you can add but 4-8 would be a good limit.

This sounds like a bad idea i know. You should have seen me the time i got drunk, fell asleep with the radio on, got up half awake at 4am and started typing forum poetry. Needless to say, it was hilarious, and i got banned.

So then   :D

"On top of a mountain"
"All covered in blood"
"I aimed for the neck"
"And started a flood"
"Through haze and red curtain"
"My dwarf will unbending"
"I crushed him to sleep"
"A slumber unending"

I knew a dwarven boy of simple birth
who'd witness'd the striking of the earth,
he'd munch his plump helmets in the dark
but soon there'd be naught but bark

In winter caverns, plaintive and glum,
With miasma, melancholy and lack of rum,
He put a quarrel in through his brain,
and noone spoke of him again

You misers, you cowards, with greed in your eye
who cheer as the dwarven lads march on by,
who hoard their seed, and  their meat
refusing to equip us with even some wheat
stay home and pray you'll never know
the halls where youth and laughter go

Let me tell you a tale of an old home gone...

Through clash of earth on earth,
With sweat and blood,
We built our home our hearth.

A grand home we built with halls strong,
With the best drinks of the mud,
Many a brew there was to accompany our song.

*CLANG* The forges were hot!
*CLANG* The mines were deep!
*CLANG* The weapons were strong!

Our grand halls filled with metals of wealth,
Fortified with the strongest steel,
Treasures to be guarded from kobolds of stealth.

Battles were fought but we stood strong and steady!
Many a dwarf sustained wounds to heal,
But the dangers never ended and the worst was to come...

Our avarice would cost us.
*CLANG*

Our fortress is strong,
Third winter and lots of food;
Watch out!  Elephants!

(Off topic, I know, but I like haiku jokes.)

I'm afraid to say, Tamren, that it seems few understood your post. I suppose we'll just call this Dwarf Poetry Central?

Oh, and JT; the last line should be...

"Not Elephants!!!" *squish*

What? It's five syllables... >.>

The artifact elephant mural:

Mural pretty mural
I stop to admire you
You take my eyes away
Wait, why are you so sharp?
You are not a mural!
Now i have no eyes
Face bloody face

Elephant's big tusks,
pierce simple dwarven bodies,
much beer spilling out.

Seven plus one
We come quickly to our new home
Carven from the flesh of the mountain.

Other peoples build cities from stone
We build ours from where stone once was
Deep under the earth.

The deep closed space calms us.
The cool crisp water
The feverish magma
The nourishing alcohol.
Grab your pick and wrest a home from the rock's bosom.

Great treasures bring envy
Wretches covet our wealth
A siege brings heartbreak to all
Råsh prospers.

The final hour approaches
Threads of priceless matter, delicately pulled from the deep.
Forged to mighty arms
But
All for nought.
Our pride fell deep.

Too deep.

The Road

Build the road, I've laid the stakes-
And rest before the summer breaks.
Shape the rock our miners panned,
and lay it fast beneath your wake.

Pulverize the stones that fell
from high above our citadel.
Cleave the trees and pack the land,
so wagons may traverse it well.

And over channels wide and deep,
In arch of stone the land shall leap-
In solemn splendor it will stand,
A bridge before our lavish keep.

From city far and village near,
the merchants ride with tanks of beer-
And for our labors, crafted grand
Of winter's breath we have no fear.

DF sets out a challenge to us with no explanation and no assistance, and each time we fail it becomes more merciless, but we continue in the hopes that we can show it, "See?  I'm doing good, right?  I kept the little men alive!  You're proud of me, right?"
