now i need to know: If you pour magma over it, will it become obsidian? Because THAT would be horrible...

To you actual question: I think, Water isnt all that solid, so you should be able to just shoot it with Marksdwarfes.

Most creatures made of a Non-solid substance (Like water, or blood.) will come apart at the slightest touch.
You can have infants punch them in half.

No but I use Ironhand's Graphics Set.

It's TTF related.  A liberal sprinkling of F10 seems to help.  F12 toggles between TTF and raster fonts.
